Frequently asked questions

How do I add a friend?

Open the Friends tab and tap Add Friend. You can search by @handle or share your personal link or QR code from the Me page. Anyone with your @handle can send you a friend request.

How does debt simplification work?

When several people in a group owe each other, SplitSmart calculates the fewest possible transfers needed to balance everything out — instead of five payments going back and forth, it might reduce to two. It only affects what the app shows; nobody’s actual expenses are changed.

Can I split in different currencies?

Yes. Each expense can be in any currency. We fetch live exchange rates and convert balances into your chosen display currency. Historic rates are used for historic expenses, so balances don’t drift with the market.

Is SplitSmart really free?

Yes. No ads, no subscriptions, no “premium tier,” no in-app purchases. We built it because every other expense-splitter charges for the good features, and we didn’t want to pay $6.99 a month to remember who bought the groceries.

How do I delete my account?

Open the app and go to Account → Settings → Delete Account. This removes your profile and personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details on what happens to expenses in shared groups.

Is my data private?

Your data is only visible to you and the people you’ve added to shared groups. We don’t sell your data, show you ads, or run behavioral tracking. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

I found a security issue.

Please email bernardorubisnes@gmail.com with the details — don’t post them publicly. We’ll respond as quickly as we can.

Notifications aren’t working.

Check that notifications are enabled for SplitSmart in your device settings. If they are and you still don’t receive them, sign out and back in — this re-registers your device. If the problem continues, email us.

Can I export my data?

Not yet from the app, but we can send you a copy of your data if you email us. Proper export is on our roadmap.
